TOPIC: Rooted Or Rootless? [Open Heaven for Teens 28 October 2021]

MEMORISE: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:7

READ: Matthew 13:5-6

  1. Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
  2. And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 23-24, 2 Timothy 2:1-26

MESSAGE:

Following the Lord correctly in one’s youth prepares a good foundation for running the Christian race till the end. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus talked about the seeds that fell in stony places. Due to the unfavourable soil condition, they withered at the rising of the sun. Unfortunately, there are many teenagers whose hearts are like these stony places; they have no root at all in Christ. For example, if you are a Christian only because you were born into a Christian home, you have no root. Such Christians are the ones who would say they can’t be caught stealing N20,000 because the amount is small. They would rather steal a large amount of money since its the same punishment that will be meted out to both the person who stole small amounts of money and large.

Anyone who does not have a personal encounter with Christ will easily succumb to any pressure to steal or engage in fraudulent practices. I pray that you will have a personal encounter with God today and He will solidify your root in Jesus name.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please let Your love be rooted in my heart more than anything else.

HYMN: I Am Thine O Lord

  1. I am Thine, O Lord,
    I have heard Thy voice,
    And it told Thy love to me;
    But I long to rise
    in the arms of faith
    And be closer drawn to Thee.

CHORUS
Draw me nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

  1. Consecrate me now to Thy
    service, Lord,
    By the pow’r of grace divine;
    Let my soul look up with a
    steadfast hope,
    And my will be lost in Thine.
  2. Oh, the pure delight
    of a single hour
    That before Thy throne I spend,
    When I kneel in prayer,
    and with Thee, my God
    I commune as friend
    with friend!
  3. There are depths of love that I
    cannot know
    Till I cross the narrow sea;
    There are heights of joy
    that I may not reach
    Till I rest in peace with Thee.
