MEMORISE: “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,” – Ephesians 5:15 (KJV)

READ: Genesis 25:27-34 (KJV)

27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

Christian books

28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.

29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:

30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Open Heaven For Today 2025 MESSAGE

Today can be regarded as tomorrow’s past. Just as your past experiences and choices gave birth to your present, the experiences and choices of today will give birth to your tomorrow. Therefore, you must be mindful of how you live your life today to birth a great future for yourself. Ephesians 5:15-16 tells us that we should walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. In the next verse, the Bible tells us what it means to walk circumspectly.

Christian books

“Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:17

To walk circumspectly is to walk in wisdom. It is to allow God’s wisdom to fill your heart so you can have a deep understanding of what God’s will is and do it.

Esau is an example of someone in the Bible who didn’t walk in wisdom, and this affected his future negatively. He was the firstborn son of Isaac and Rebecca, and as the firstborn, he was entitled to his father’s blessing. His future was looking very bright until one day when he went to the field to hunt for meat. He returned home hungry and met his brother, Jacob, cooking. Esau allowed his hunger to becloud his reasoning and accepted Jacob’s offer to trade his birthright for a plate of food, as we see in today’s Bible reading. He didn’t know that the birthright he carelessly sold was tied to the blessing that was waiting for him in the future. Because he despised his birthright, the blessing fled from him. You must live in such a way that you don’t eat your tomorrow today. Don’t be like Esau, who couldn’t see beyond his immediate want and allowed a temporary hunger to cause him to lose a permanent blessing.

Another fellow who didn’t walk in wisdom and allowed his foolish actions to destroy his future was Reuben. Reuben was the firstborn son of Jacob, and as the firstborn, he had every right to inherit the blessing. However, he was unwise, and he slept with his father’s concubine. He allowed his temporary desire to cheat him and his descendants of the great blessing he should have inherited. When his father was about to die, instead of receiving blessings, he and his descendants inherited curses (Genesis 49:3-4).

Beloved, choose to walk in wisdom by living strictly according to the word of God at all times so that you and your children can reap good fruits in the future.

KEY POINT

Your actions today will determine the outcome of your life and that of your descendants tomorrow. Live wisely.

HYMN 28 – Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah!

1 Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah!
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven!
Feed me now and evermore (2ce)

2 Open Thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow:
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong deliverer! strong deliverer!
Be Thou still my strength and shield (2ce)

3 If I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside:
Bear me through the swelling torrent,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side:
Songs of praises! songs of praises!
I will ever give to Thee (2ce)

4 Saviour, come! We long to see Thee,
Long to dwell with Thee above;
And to know in full communion,
All the sweetness of Thy love.
Come, Lord Jesus! Come, Lord Jesus!
Take Thy waiting people home (2ce)

MEMORISE: “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” – Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV)

READ: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (KJV)

9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 44-46

Open Heaven For Today 2025 MESSAGE

The past can be regarded as the mother of the present. Whatever you are going through today can be traced to the things that happened in the past. You might be going through some negative things now because of some of your past mistakes, but the good news is that the One who is called Alpha and Omega can clear out your negative past. He can wash off the mistakes of the past with His blood (1 John 1:7). This is why 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that if a man is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away, and behold, all things have become new.

Christian books

No matter the events that have happened in your past, the moment you come to Jesus, He gives you a brand-new start. He enters into your past and rearranges everything to work for your good. God doesn’t need a minute to travel into your past to correct anything. In Revelation 1:8, He says:

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

God is Alpha and Omega, and He can go back to the day of your naming ceremony, the day of your birth, or even the time before your birth to change things in your favour.

Some people have problems today because of the names they bear. Some of these people were given names to reflect the circumstances that surrounded them or their families at the time of their birth. For instance, if someone is named Esugbogo (meaning ‘satan is glorified’ in the Yoruba language), such a person cannot blame satan for tormenting him or her because the fellow’s name literally invites satan to glorify himself over the fellow. Such people have very little that they can do about the things that happened before their birth or how they were named, but there’s someone who can go back to that time and change situations. God can go into your past to change things that don’t fit into His plans and purposes for you.

Beloved, God holds the key to your past. Cry out to Him today to change anything in your past that is contrary to His purpose for your life, as Jabez did in today’s Bible reading. I pray that my Father will remove every negative thing in your past that might be haunting your present and give you a brand-new beginning, in Jesus’ name.

KEY POINT

God can remove anything from your past that doesn’t fit into His purpose for your life.

HYMN 27 – What A Friend We Have In Jesus

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge-
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.

Open Heaven For Today 2025 Saturday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Freedom From Generational Curses (2)

TOPIC – Freedom From Generational Curses (2)

MEMORISE: “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” – Isaiah 10:27 (KJV)

READ: 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (KJV)

17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 41-43

Open Heaven For Today 2025 MESSAGE

Today, I’ll conclude my discussion on generational curses and their impact. Such curses take root over several generations, and when anyone wants to remove them, they won’t go without a fight. For instance, when Moses tried to deliver Israel from the hold of the Egyptians, Pharaoh was reluctant to let them go. God had to send ten plagues before he was forced to release them. Even after that, he and his army pursued them to take them back into bondage. The Egyptians had tormented Israel for many generations – lasting 430 years (Exodus 12:40) – and they didn’t want to let them go. For Israel to finally be free, God had to wipe out Pharaoh’s soldiers (Exodus 14:27- 28). If there are any generational curses working against your destiny, I decree they are broken today, in Jesus’ name.

To be free from generational curses, people can go to genuine ministers of God, and they will cancel them. However, if they continue to live sinful lifestyles, the curses may come back. Imagine if, after Israel was freed, they separated themselves from Moses, their link to God, the Egyptians would have recaptured them. The primary thing that is required for generational curses to be broken forever is that people remain close to God.

People can also break generational curses by themselves if they become really intimate with Christ. The literal meaning of today’s memory verse is that as you continually get filled with the Holy Spirit, you will grow in the spirit such that your neck will become too big for any demonic yoke to hold it. After Jesus healed the man at the pool of Bethesda, He warned him not to return to sin so that something worse wouldn’t happen to him (John 5:14). Sin will always keep the door open for generational curses. You must live a holy life because the devil will return to check if he has legal grounds to torment you again (John 14:30). You must also be willing to pray and fast diligently because certain demons only respond to prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). You should also study your Bible diligently because it is the truth that makes you free (John 8:32), and do not forsake the fellowshipping of brethren because one can chase 1,000 but two can chase 10,000 (Hebrews 10:25, Deuteronomy 32:30). As you do these, no generational curse or any other curse will be able to affect you, your family, and every other thing that concerns you.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please deliver me and my family from generational curses, in Jesus’ name

HYMN 1 – All Hail The Pow’r Of Jesus’ Name

1 All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.

2 Let highborn seraphs tune the lyre,
and as they tune it, fall
Before His face Who tunes their choir,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Before His face Who tunes their choir,
and crown Him Lord of all.

3 Crown Him, ye morning stars of light,
Who fixed this floating ball;
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,
and crown Him Lord of all.

4 Crown Him, ye martyrs of your God,
who from His altar call;
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod,
and crown Him Lord of all.

5 Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race,
ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.

6 Hail Him, ye heirs of David’s line,
Whom David Lord did call,
The God incarnate, Man divine,
and crown Him Lord of all,
The God incarnate, Man divine,
and crown Him Lord of all.

7 Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget
the wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
and crown Him Lord of all.

8 Let every tribe and every tongue
before Him prostrate fall
And shout in universal song
the crowned Lord of all.
And shout in universal song
the crowned Lord of all
