READ: Romans 12: 8-10
- Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
- Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
- Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
MESSAGE:
There is a popular saying that respect is reciprocal, but I must debunk that assertion today. One way to make God proud through your behaviour is by respecting others, whether they reciprocate or not.
When I was a teacher, I noticed a common trend among teenagers; some of them speak badly about adults they don’t like or those who have offended them. I remember telling some of them that if they respect people only in their presence but speak badly about them in their absence, they are being deceptive and hypocritical. This is because if you truly respect someone, you wouldn’t speak ill of them whether in their absence or presence.
My dear child, I know that some people can step on your toes and even go all out to tempt you to behave in an ungodly manner. However, you must be smart enough to avoid such people. In situations where such people are elderly, I advise you to report to other elderly people rather than disrespect such elders or gossip among your peers.
KEY POINT: Respect people even if they disrespect you.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Genesis 18:16-19:38, Matthew 6:14
HYMN 30: When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]
3 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]
