BIBLE READING: Ecclesiastes 1:1-9
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
MESSAGE:
Friendship and quality relationships provide support and encouragement when they are built on love, mutual respect, and obedience to God’s principles. The Bible encourages believers not to walk alone, but instead, to exhort and encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). Today, many young people struggle with depression and psychological issues because they isolate themselves from other people.
The Bible emphasises the importance of godly associations. In Proverbs 13:20 (KJV), the Scripture says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Some Christians have encountered problems due to wrong friendships. However, there are also inspiring stories of people who were rescued from danger because a friend checked on them or alerted the right authorities on time.
An adage says, ‘Show me your friend, and I will tell you who you are.’ This means that your friends can significantly influence the direction of your life. Therefore, I implore you to choose your friends wisely. Ensure that you and your friends are particular about one another’s progress morally. spiritually, academically, and in other aspects of life.
KEY POINT:
Your friends can be a major influence in your life; therefore, choose them carefully.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Luke 7:1-30, Judges 1-2
HYMN 27: What A Friend We Have In Jesus
1 What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3 Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there
