BIBLE READING: Daniel 4:30-34
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.
34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
MESSAGE:
Yesterday, I advised you to learn from the experiences of other people. Today, we will examine how to learn from your personal experiences. Nebuchadnezzar is an example of a character in the Bible who learnt from his personal experience. He was a proud king who believed he had become great through his power, but God became angry with him and made him lose his senses, so that he ate grass like an animal for seven years. When he came to his senses, he learnt his lesson and recognised God as all-powerful.
Sadly, there are people who refuse to learn from their own experiences. Would you consider them to be wise or foolish? Pharaoh is an example of someone who didn’t learn from his experience. Despite the plagues God sent to Egypt, he remained stubborn until the last plague came, which killed all the firstborns in the land and forced him to send the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 12:29-30). Shortly after, he and his servants wondered why they had let the Israelites go, and his heart became hardened again. Therefore, he gathered his army to chase them so he could bring them back into captivity. However, his entire army perished in the Red Sea (Exodus 14:5-28).
My dear child, don’t be a fool; learn from every experience you have had in the past. It was God’s mercy that preserved you in the first place.
