TOPIC: Deliverance From Destruction
READ: Psalm 5:6-12 (NKJV)
- You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
- But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
- Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.
- For [there is] no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part [is] destruction; Their throat [is] an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue.
- Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against You.
- But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.
- For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as [with] a shield.
THE MESSAGE:
The psalmist uses very strong language to describe God’s mind towards the wicked and sinful – they have no part in God except destruction. On the opposite end, the psalmist describes God’s relationship with those He loves – they are able to come into God’s presence to worship and receive counsel. The psalmist assures us that such people are constantly under God’s protection. They will rejoice, sing always, and live a blessed life. God’s eyes are constantly on all His creation; He is looking for those who would walk before Him blamelessly in order to bless and protect them. But His anger and judgement are on those who deliberately want to be wicked, deceptive, and rebellious against His will. Their end is destruction.
This is a wake-up call for us all. How have you lived your life? Are you living in obedience to God’s will or in rebellion? Remember, God loves you and does not desire that any should perish in their wickedness but rather repent and return to Him.
PRAYER: Lord, deliver me from destruction and set me on the path of the faithful, Amen!
