READ: Luke 2:22-35 (NKJV)

  1. Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present [Him] to the Lord
  2. (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the LORD”),
  3. and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
  4. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
  5. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
  6. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,
  7. he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
  8. “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;
  9. For my eyes have seen Your salvation
  10. Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
  11. A light to [bring] revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”
  12. And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.
  13. Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this [Child] is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against
  14. “(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

THE MESSAGE:

When it was time for Jesus to be brought to the temple, His earthly parents – Joseph and Mary did exactly that. They brought the required offerings as they could afford, in line with the Law of the Lord. They presented Jesus and the offerings to the Lord and He was received by Simeon. To Simeon, it was a fulfilment of the promise of God to him that he would not see death until he had seen Christ the Lord.

Jesus was raised in a family that obeyed the commandments of God and feared Him. From the cradle, He enjoyed the privilege of being in such a family. No wonder He succeeded. Which type of family do you present to your children and those living with you? Is it one where the fear of God rules or one in which anything goes? May our families be such that always obey the commandments of God and where the fear of the Lord reigns supreme! Children raised in such families will be like Jesus in character and conduct and the society will be the better for it.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, may my family be like the one where Jesus was raised. Amen!
