TOPIC: Imitators Of Christ And Us
READ: 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10
6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
THE MESSAGE:
Paul commended the Thessalonian Church for imitating the apostles and Christ by responding to the Gospel in spite of affliction. By so doing, they became examples to other believers in Macedonia and Achaia (verses 6-7). They abandoned their idolatrous background to follow Christ and “to serve the living and true God” (verse 9). There was a total turnaround by the Thessalonians.
In our Christian journey, may we emulate the Thessalonian Church by totally yielding ourselves to serving the Lord! Let us abandon anything that still encumbers us from totally serving the Lord in Spirit and in truth. Let us have a heart check today and abandon every dumb idol in our lives which may be hindering us from following Christ and serving God wholeheartedly. May the Lord bless us as we take this important step!
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please help me to turn away from every wrong direction and to follow You fully.
