TOPIC: Worthy Co-Labourers In God’s Vineyard

TEXT: TITUS 1:1-5 (NKJV)

  1. Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,
  2. in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
  3. but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;
  4. To Titus, a true son in [our] common faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
  5. For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you

THE MESSAGE:

Timothy and Titus were co-workers of Paul; they served under his apostolic authority. While Timothy was sent to Corinth (1 Corinthians 4:17), Philippi (Philippians 2:19-24), and Thessalonica (1 Thessalonians 3:1-30), Titus was involved in the relief collection for the saints in Jerusalem (2 Corinthians 7:13-15). Titus was with Paul when the Gospel came to Crete and he “put what remained in order and appointed elders” (Titus 1:5). Timothy remained in Ephesus to “charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine” (1Timothy 1:3). They both served as Paul’s delegates or envoys to strengthen these Churches. Timothy and Titus were faithful and committed to Paul’s mission. The Gospel was a trust from God that Paul had passed on to Timothy and Titus, to entrust (2 Timothy 2:2) and declare (Titus 2:15) to others with all authority.

God does not call us to be lone rangers in His service. Timothy and Titus were worthy co-labourers with Apostle Paul in ministry, and this leaves us with a challenge of proper spiritual discipleship and mentoring. We are to be part of a team that loves and cares for one another while serving together. We have the responsibility to guard the Gospel that has been entrusted to us and pay close attention to our lives and teachings. Are you part of a team? Do you care for the spiritual life of others?

PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to work faithfully with others to build Your kingdom, Amen!
