BIBLE READING: 1 Peter 3:3-4
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
MESSAGE:
Today’s world is obsessed with outward appearances and constant comparison, causing many young people to lose their confidence. I want to remind you, however, that your worth isn’t based on public opinions, your social media followers, fashion trends, or your achievements; it is based on your identity in Christ.
A major reason many teenagers get into unnecessary debts and trouble is that they want to ‘slay’ with their appearance so that they can have a sense of belonging in their social groups. Unfortunately, some of them get swayed and abandon their faith in the process. My dear child, your true confidence should flow from knowing that God values you, and you do not need to stress yourself to create an unnecessary impression before Him. All you need to do is focus on your God-given abilities.
It is important to note that being confident in yourself doesn’t imply that you should become arrogant. Rather, you must remain humble, recognising that it is God who is working through you (Philippians 4:13). Beloved, please embrace this reality in Christ and remain confident to the point where you won’t be swayed from your faith. I pray that my Daddy will give you the grace to stay rooted in Him, regardless of whatever temptations may come your way, in Jesus’ name.
Quiz: What attitude should confidence in Christ produce in a believer?
KEY POINT:
Knowing your identity in Christ will keep you rooted in Him.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Mark 11, Numbers 36, Deuteronomy 1
HYMN 27 – What A Friend We Have In Jesus
1 What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3 Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there
