TOPIC: Refrain Your Tongue (2) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 12 April 2026)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 13, 1 Kings 14, 1 Kings 15, Revelation 15, Revelation 16.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 1:1-16 (KJV)

1 Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;

2 It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

3 And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.

4 And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.

5 And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?

6 And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

7 And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.

8 And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.

9 He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.

10 So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.

11 Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him:

12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

13 And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.

14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?

15 And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.

16 And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the Lord’s anointed.

MEMORY VERSE: Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. – Psalm 141:3 (KJV)

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: Be a master over the organs of your body, especially your mouth.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP: Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY: Receive power to put your tongue under control, in the Name of Jesus.

MFM Devotional For Today 2026 MESSAGE:

Today’s Fire Scripture shows a clear example of someone who lacked wisdom and could not refrain his tongue. As a result of his carelessness, he lost his life. This young Amalekite thought he was bearing good news; little did he know that David would not rejoice at the death of the anointed one. He earned himself a cheap death.

Are you guilty of speaking without thinking? Many people have put themselves into trouble by allowing their mouths to talk faster than their brains. James counsels us to be swift to hear and slow to speak (James 1:19). This is not a sign of timidity; it is rather a sign of wisdom. It is impatience that makes you talk rashly and foolishly.

Pride and arrogance can also be responsible for unwholesome words. Don’t forget that God hates the proud. He resists them but draws the humble to Himself. A proud man is prone to telling lies and offending God in his utterances, like the rich old fool in Luke 12:16-21.

This is a serious issue that every individual should work on. The Psalmist cried to God, “Create in me a new heart, O Lord!” (Psalm 51:10) because he understood the connection between the heart and the tongue. Psalm 19:14 also reveals that prayer can be accepted or rejected by God depending on the condition of your heart and tongue. Failure to refrain your tongue from speaking guile will make your prayers unacceptable before God. Every manifestation of an untamed tongue glorifies the devil. He is a liar and the father of lies, a specialist in speaking guile.

Therefore, you must desist from these ungodly acts which are manifestations of the works of the flesh. Embrace godliness and begin to manifest the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:19-21, 22-23). Surrender yourself, including your tongue, totally to God.

It will be good to make today’s memory verse a prayer, just like the Psalmist did. Ask God to purge your tongue with fire as He did for prophet Isaiah. God will honour your words, and men will come to your rising, in Jesus’ Name.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Father, help me not to offend You or my fellow men in word, in the Name of Jesus.
  2. My tongue shall not be unruly; it shall not be a world of iniquity, in the Name of Jesus.
  3. Fire of God, purge every deadly poison off my tongue, in the Name of Jesus.

EVENING

  1. My tongue will not take me to hell fire, in the Name of Jesus.
  2. I receive grace and power to speak with wisdom and understanding, in the Name of Jesus.
  3. My tongue, become a well and fountain of grace and love in my relationships, in the Name of Jesus.
  4. Father, let my words edify and comfort souls to glorify Your Name, in the Name of Jesus.
