TOPIC – The Blessedness Of Christ

READ: Matthew 5:1-12

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

THE MESSAGE:

We live in a world today where the sign of God’s blessing is seen as mostly material possessions and physical achievements. In the New Testament, we come face to face with the truth of the blessedness of Christ; we see what it really means to be blessed of God. The true blessing of Christ is seen in the attitude and lifestyle of the believer rather than in acquisition and accumulation of worldly goods. The blessings of the kingdom cannot be touched or seen; yet they are real and great.

As Saints and Disciples of Christ, we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). What a blessing to have the spirit of true humility; of realising one’s continuous need for God and meekness, as against the pride of men of this world, as described in Psalm 73. We are blessed when we still mourn for our sins, for such is the ground for God’s provision of comfort and strength for victory. This is contrary to a life that has become comfortable in sin, which is a sure path to destruction. People are obsessed today with the uncontrollable hunger for material possessions which has bruised many souls. On the contrary, the Saint is blessed rather with the hunger and thirst for righteousness. Jesus was set above His companions because of His love for righteousness.

PRAYER: Father, help me to know and pursue the true blessings of Christ.
