READ: Daniel 1:8-16 (NKJV)

  1. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
  2. Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs.
  3. And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who [are] your age? Then you would endanger my head before the king.”
  4. So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
  5. “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.
  6. “Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, [so] deal with your servants.”
  7. So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days.
  8. And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies.
  9. Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.

THE MESSAGE:

Daniel and his colleagues were given the opportunity to feed freely from the King’s table – eat his delicacies. However, they preferred to feed on vegetables because it was possible the King’s food had been dedicated to the gods of Babylon. Their guardian feared for his life if the king should find out he had disobeyed orders by refusing to feed them with the King’s food. However, he agreed to give them a trial on their preferred meal. Daniel and his colleagues decided to maintain allegiance to the God of their fathers in a foreign land. Though they knew the consequences of their action included death, they never minded.

They declared boldly that they would not defile themselves with the King’s food and drinks. Since they decided to honour God, God decided also to honour them. God used the vegetables they chose to nourish their bodies more than the rich king’s food.

Many problems in life can easily be solved by positively resolving what to do. How do you handle the daily physical and spiritual challenges you face? Do you always resolve to give God glory through such? God always honours such resolve. Whatever you are passing through now, please try this method and you will come out with testimonies.

PRAYER: Lord, You promised to make a way of escape to every temptation, please come to my rescue now.
