TOPIC – Words Are Powerful (1)

MEMORISE: “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” – James 3:2 (KJV)

READ: James 3:2-13 (KJV)

2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 62-68

Open Heaven For Today 2025 MESSAGE

When I got married and had children, things were really difficult for me and my young family. However, I would always tell my wife to brace up because things would not remain tough forever. I never allowed any negative confession to come out of my mouth because I knew that they would negatively impact our future. When the Shunammite woman lost her son, she never allowed any negative word to come out of her mouth. All she kept saying was, “It shall be well” and “It is well” (2 Kings 4:23,26). She refused to utter negative words that would aid what the devil was trying to achieve. Instead, she kept speaking what she wanted until everything became well indeed.

Words are very powerful. In Africa, the elders say that they are like an egg, meaning that once they are uttered, their impact cannot be reversed. You must be careful what you say and how you say it. When you speak negative words, the damage they cause may be irreparable, even if you are genuinely sorry about uttering them. Don’t speak when you are extremely angry or very excited because you may say the wrong things. You should also be careful with your words whenever you are sad because there is power in your tongue. The power of life and death lies in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), and you must be intentional about the words you speak.

Proverbs 6:2 says, “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.” No matter what happens, always think before you talk. Also, always let your words be in line with God’s word. The word of God is powerful; it can break every negative word that has been spoken over your life and destiny. Jabez was a newborn baby when his mother made a negative pronouncement over him. She set him up for a life of sorrow and hardship because she spoke when she was in pain. Thankfully, Jabez rejected sorrow and hardship by crying to God to bless him, and God turned his life around (1 Chronicles 4:9-10).

Beloved, whatever you say is what you will get; therefore, use your tongue wisely. If you have made negative pronouncements over your life or your children’s lives, ask God for mercy and begin to overwrite them with God’s word. I pray that His word will continually lift you up and bless all that concerns you, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, please help me to always use my tongue wisely, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 31 – Yield Not To Temptation

1 Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through.

Refrain:
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

2 Shun evil companions, bad language disdain,
God’s name hold in rev’rence, nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through.

3 To him that o’ercometh, God giveth a crown,
Through faith we will conquer, though often cast down;
He who is our Savior, our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through.

TOPIC – Talk To Your Father

MEMORISE: “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” – Galatians 4:6 (KJV)

READ: Romans 8:14-17 (KJV)

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Open Heaven For Today 2025 MESSAGE

During my regular morning prayer walk one day, I remembered a joke. I was preparing for a ministers’ conference, so l tried to push the joke out of my thoughts. However, I sensed that God wanted to tell me something through the joke, so I allowed myself to think about it. During the conference, I shared the joke, which goes thus: A husband and his wife had been quarrelling for a long time. Things got so bad that they said they wouldn’t talk to each other anymore. One night, the husband, who was a heavy sleeper, wrote a note for his wife, “Darling, I have to catch a plane at 8am. Please wake me at 6am.” He placed the note on his wife’s side of the bed and slept. When he woke up the following morning, it was 8am, and his wife had gone to work. He was furious, and as he fumed, he saw a note on his side of the bed where his wife wrote, “Darling, wake up. It’s 6am.” After sharing the joke, God told me, “Tell My people: I won’t talk to those of you who don’t talk to Me.” God loves it when you talk to Him, and when you do, you invite Him to also speak with you.

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, the first thing He said was, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father…” (Luke 11:2). No father loves it when his children don’t talk to him. As a father, I enjoy it when my children spend time with me. 1 John 3:1 says that the Father has bestowed such great love on you by calling you His son. John 8:35 says that a servant doesn’t abide in the house, but a son abides forever. As God’s precious child, you have access to Him at all times. You can call on Him and talk to Him about anything, and He will respond.

If you’re a child of God, seek to be more intimate with your Father every day (Philippians 3:10). If, however, you’re not yet a child of God, then you cannot have access to Him until you acknowledge Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you were once a Christian but have backslidden and disconnected yourself from God like the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32), run back into His waiting arms.

Beloved, God longs and seeks for His children to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23). Fulfil His desire by speaking with Him continually.

ACTION POINTS:

Talk to your heavenly Father every day. Also, today is Father’s Day; call or spend time with your father or any other father figure in your life.

HYMN 6 – I Am So Glad That Our Father In Heaven

1 I am so glad that our Father in Heaven
Tells of His love in the Book He has given;
Wonderful things in the Bible I see,
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

Refrain
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves even me.

2 Jesus loves me and I know I love Him;
Love brought Him down my lost soul to redeem;
Yes, it was love made Him die on the tree:
Oh, I am certain that Jesus loves me.

3 In this assurance I find sweetest rest,
Trusting in Jesus, I know I am blessed;
Satan, dismayed, from my soul now doth flee,
When I just tell him that Jesus loves me.

4 Oh, if there’s only one song I can sing,
When in His beauty I see the great King,
This shall my song through eternity be,
“Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me!”

5 If one should ask of me, how can I tell?
Glory to Jesus, I know very well!
God’s Holy Spirit with mine doth agree,
Constantly witnessing Jesus loves me.

TOPIC – Peace In A Storm

MEMORISE: “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” – Isaiah 59:1-2 (KJV)

READ: Mark 4:35-41 (KJV)

35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 50-55

Open Heaven 14 June 2025 MESSAGE

In a storm, there is always so much turmoil, but right in the middle of it is the part called ‘the eye of the storm’, which is usually peaceful and calm. When you are connected to the Almighty God, no matter how much trouble surrounds you, you will always experience peace and calm.

In 1 Kings 17:1, rivers dried up, and people suffered. There was so much hunger in the land, yet God provided for Elijah at all times. At one point, God sent ravens to bring him bread and meat every morning and evening. When the brook dried up, God sent him to a widow to sustain him (1 Kings 17:9). When you are connected to the King of kings, your experience will always be different from that of others around you. For example, during an economic downturn, when people are anxious about their finances, a child of God will be calm, knowing that his or her economy is in Zion, where the streets are made of gold.

In today’s Bible reading, when Jesus and His disciples were travelling on the sea, a storm arose, but Jesus slept peacefully through it because He is connected to the Father. While the disciples were scared of perishing, He slept like a baby with a pillow (Mark 4:38). Paul also faced a huge storm, and in the midst of it, while the other people on the ship spoke of dying, he spoke of life and deliverance because God sent His angel to assure him of safety (Acts 27:20-25). His connection with God gave him the assurance that nothing evil would befall him.

Beloved, if you are in a storm and you don’t want to be swept away, you must remain connected to God. What can destroy this connection is sin. Isaiah 59:1-2 says that there is always a gap between sinners and God, and even though His arms are everlasting (Deuteronomy 33:27), they cannot reach the sinners. When people allow sin into their lives, they leave the centre of God’s will where peace and joy reign.

When Jonah chose to go to Tarshish in disobedience to God, a storm arose, and he found himself in the belly of a big fish (Jonah 1:1-17). Sin will always bring a fellow into negative situations, and that is why you must not toy with it at all. Economies and nations will fail, but if you want to keep blossoming and flourishing amidst negative reports, you must shun sin and remain connected to God.

KEY POINTS:

Believers who remain connected to God will thrive amidst storms.

HYMN 19 – Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me

1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood,
from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
save from wrath and make me pure.

2 Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill thy law’s demands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.

3 Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to the cross I cling;
naked, come to thee for dress;
helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly;
wash me, Savior, or I die.

4 While I draw this fleeting breath,
when mine eyes shall close in death,
when I soar to worlds unknown,
see thee on thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee.
