BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: John 4:1-54, 2 Kings 4-5

MESSAGE:

It is a horrible feeling to be defenceless or helpless in this hostile world filled with bullies -both in the physical and spiritual. Some threaten to make life unbearable for others, even though they didnt create that life. This may be your case if youre being maltreated by your employer/guardian. You may be a young apprentice being maltreated by an overbearing boss or an orphan who is unjustly treated by relatives. Have you been asking God for intervention and it seems He isn’t forthcoming? God can defend you on time if He so desires but He sometimes waits until you’re completely helpless so that you will not interfere in any way and take all the glory. Moreover, when you are helpless, you will pray wholeheartedly, knowing that only He can help you.

God is a defender of the defenceless. When the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians, He rose on their behalf and defended them. Whenever the Israelites were under the mighty hand of their oppressors, God showed up. He is still God and He will deliver you as promised in Isaiah 49:26. Cry unto Him today.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please arise and defend me.

HYMN: O Worship The King

  1. O worship the King all glorious above,
O gratefully sing His power and His love:
    our Shield and Defender, the
    Ancient of Days,
    pavilioned in splendour and girded
    with praise.
  2. O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
whose robe is the light, whose
    canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep
    thunderclouds form,
and dark is His path on the wings of
    the storm.
  3. Thy bountiful care, what tongue can
    recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the
    light;
It streams from the hills, it descends
    to the plain,
and sweetly distils in the dew and
    the rain.
  4. Frail children of dust, and feeble as
    frail,
in Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to
    fail.
Your mercies, how tender, how firm
    to the end,
    our Maker, Defender, Redeemer,
    and Friend!
  5. O measureless Might, ineffable Love,
While angels delight to hymn Thee above!
    The humbler creation, though
    feeble their lays,
with true adoration shall lisp to Thy praise!
