Entrance Antiphon Cf. Ps 51:10
I am like a growing olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the mercy of God, for ever and ever.
Or
I despised the kingdom of the world and all worldly finery for love of my Lord, Jesus Christ, whom I have seen, whom I have loved, in whom I have believed, in whom has been my delight.
Collect
God our Father, you called Frances Xavier Cabrini from Italy to serve the immigrants of America. By her example teach us concern for the stranger, the sick, and the frustrated. By her prayers help us to see Christ in all the men and women we meet. Grant this through our Lord
FIRST READING
“We ourselves were once led astray, but when the loving kindness of God appeared, he saved us.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to Titus (Titus 3:1-7)
Beloved: Remind everyone to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for any honest work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarrelling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy towards all men. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another; but when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, which he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life.
The word of the Lord.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 23:1-3a.3b-4.5.6 (R. I)
R/. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures
where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me;
he revives my soul. R/.
He guides me along the right path,
for the sake of his name.
Though I should walk in the valley of the shadow of death,
no evil would I fear, for you are with me.
Your crook and your staff will give me comfort. R/.
R/. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
You have prepared a table before me
in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing. R/.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell
for length of days unending. R/.
ALLELUIA 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Alleluia. Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Alleluia.
GOSPEL
“Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
A reading front the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 17:11-19)
On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, leave mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then said Jesus, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
TODAY’S REFLECTION
The ten lepers were healed by Jesus not because of any merit on their part, but because of the mercy and goodness abounding in Jesus. They were beneficiaries of such abundant blessing that their life would never be the same from now on. But in their new-found status they forgot one essential quality everyone needs: gratitude. Jesus teaches them and us of the need to be people of gratitude. St Paul reminds us of the fact that “he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy.” Daily we receive an abundance of blessings and graces from the throne of God’s mercy. Do we return to God with grateful hearts?
Today’s Saint and Quote: St Frances Xavier Cabrini – November 13th
Mother Cabrini is the first United States citizen named as a saint. She is the patroness of immigrants and hospital administrators.
- We must pray without tiring, for the salvation of mankind does not depend upon material success, nor on sciences that cloud the intellect. Neither does it depend on arms and human industries, but on Jesus alone
PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL
Pray the Rosary of Divine Mercy, ask God pardon for the ways you may have contributed to the fall of any child of God.
- Also pray for the revival of weak and backsliding Christians.
HERE ARE THE STEPS OF HOW TO PRAY THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET:
Step 1 – Using a regular set of Rosary beads, you begin at the cross by doing the sign of the cross.
(Optional Opening Prayer) You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
(Repeat three times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
Step 2 – On the three beads of the rosary pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Apostles Creed.
Step 3 – You begin each decade with the Our Father beads by praying this prayer:
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
Step 4 – Complete the decade on the 10 Hail Mary beads by praying this prayer:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each decade on the rosary beads
Step 5 – Once you have prayed all 5 decades, you finish the Chaplet by praying the following prayer 3 times:
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
(Optional Closing Prayer) Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence, submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.
