TOPIC: Jesus Is The Christ

READ: Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[d] loosed in heaven.”

20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

THE MESSAGE:

Today, the Church celebrates Saint Peter. By the revelation from God. Peter proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Jesus Christ noted that this confession of Peter was the foundation on which the Church would be built. Although the name ‘Peter’ means ‘Rock’, the Church was to stand on Jesus as the sure foundation, as He is equally the Builder of His Church (verse 18). The keys of the kingdom of heaven have been handed over to the Church by the Lord Jesus Christ such that her voice is honoured on earth and in heaven (verse 19). There is no confusion – Jesus Christ is the Owner of His Church, and no human contention can change this eternal truth.

Beloved in Christ, Jesus Christ is the Messiah (The Anointed One). In spite of many popular confusions and diverse opinions about Christ, especially in our present day, He remains the Lord and Saviour of the world. This is the faith of the Church of God. Whatever has to do with faith comes from revelation, not a product of flesh and blood. Christians must live in the reality of this faith without shaking. The faith of the Church is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. This is the faith that can stand the test of time. There is no controversy, Jesus Christ is the Lord.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to embrace the true faith in Jesus Christ.
