MFM Devotional For Today 2026 MESSAGE:

Remembering the poor is not about an occasional charity, but about making care for the poor a regular part of ministry and life. In Romans 12:13, the Bible enjoins believers to distribute to the necessity of the saints and be given to hospitality. Similarly, in Galatians 2:10 the apostles, particularly James, Peter and John, told Paul and Barnabas to remember the poor in their ministry. Paul agreed with them and stated that it was something he was already eager to do. Beloved, God expects you to take care of the poor and needy on a regular basis.

Let us now examine some ways you can practically show love and care to the poor, needy and vulnerable. First, you can serve them with compassion or acts of kindness and mercy. This entails listening and learning about their struggles, showing empathy, treating them with dignity and standing up for their rights and justice. Second, you can provide them practical help by offering food, shelter, clothing, or financial assistance. Let your empowerment programme and palliatives be human-centred and lift them out of poverty (3) Provide them with means of livelihood by organizing skill acquisition programmes where they can receive entrepreneurial training and seed capital to start a business and be self-employed or help them get paid employment. This particular step will require that you do follow-up and mentoring for the beneficiaries of your programme. (4) Stand up for policies and initiatives that address poverty and inequality. You can call for or lend your voice to a private bill, motion or referendum to end poverty through social welfare support, job training and economic empowerment. Use your voice to raise awareness about issues affecting the poor and vulnerable. (5) Share the gospel with them. Jesus Christ is the One who can truly meet all their needs. The poor need salvation more than anything else. If you truly love and care for them, you should also be concerned about their souls and witness Christ to them. Once they become born again, heaven will take good care of them.

Beloved, God doesn’t want you to live a self-centred life. True religion is actively reaching out to those suffering and ensuring their well-being (James 1:27).
